Making progress pleasurable
One of the benefits of an online course is flexibility. Create a relaxed atmosphere, and make it a date.

Sunrise discussions over good coffee.
"We both have busy schedules (and kids), so the only time we could get away with getting through the course undisturbed was first thing in the morning. We started getting up before first light and watching the sunrise together. It was actually really nice, because usually we don't spend that much time together. I really look forward to those early morning coffees".

Lazy Sunday Sleep-Ins
"We're pretty laid-back about it. We just try to do one or two videos on a Sunday morning in bed whenever we wake up. It's a good excuse to avoid getting out of bed. Sometimes that's all we do, and other times we realise it's 2pm and we're still in our pyjamas. Probably better than scrolling Facebook though".

Friday afternoon beers.
We usually have a couple of drinks together at the end of the week anyway. We just get the laptop out and set up a cheese-platter or something. We've actually had some pretty interesting discussions.
Relationships should be fun
Getting your communication back on track doesn't need to be effortful or awkward. Enjoy each other's company, have a conversation, move through the course at your own pace.

Post-gym chats
"After the gym mostly. Probably because we're all full of adrenaline haha. We're already feeling motivated, and then you get the high of going to the gym and the high of being productive in your relationship you know".

Picnic Styles
"We try to make a date out of it for sure. We roll out a picnic blanket in the garden and lay out an awesome platter some weekends, we did tea and blankets next to the fire another week. We just lay in the sun with some good dip and it takes the anxiety out of talking".

It's just a cup of tea.
"It isn't a 'date' for us per se, it's just a cup of tea and a chat. We pour some tea, watch one of the videos and just have a conversation about it. We like keeping it relaxed".

Whiskey and Wine.
"Admittedly I opened a good bottle of Japanese whiskey as a deliberate bribe when we first opened the course (Sorry James!). I needn't have, we both liked it in the end, but it came to resemble almost a ritual for us. My weakness is a good red, so Friday afternoons we look forward to a couple of glasses while we watch the videos".

Remember dinner at the table?
"We just kind of fell into the habit of doing it over dinner. The only time we had one day was the evening, I got the laptop set up while he dished the food and we got started while we ate. It just kind of worked so we started doing it that way more and more. It was nice having proper dinners together again, normally we just watch TV at night".

Wednesdays are ours.
"So we decided Wednesday afternoons were good because we both have early days and our (high-school aged) kids get home later from practice. We do normally two lessons and a workshop, sometimes more. Then we order food and watch movies. The kids know they're allowed to game as much as they want on a Wednesday so long as they're in bed on time and leave us be. Wednesdays are ours now, lol".
